14 Mar 2011 - Nuclear Meltdowns - Various
Well if the Tsuanmi was not bad enough, the nuclear fallout looks like it might be even worse. Two explosions so far and now a third reactor with exposed fuel rods.Thousands of bodies washing up onshore. This is truly a horrible disaster, the quake was so powerful it shifted the Earth's axis. I think thus far, the death toll may be somewhat underestimated but, I hope I am wrong. In the town of Natori, there was no one left to rescue. Is there any risk to the US? Offficial sources (US Nuclear Regulatory Commission) says the US will not experience any harmful effects from the fallout in Japan. OK, you expect a statement like that even if they knew the whole west coast is set to glow green for the next twelve millenium. But this time, they may not be far from the truth. While I am no expert here, I do know a little about Nuclear Radiation, I do not think this poses a great risk to the US. Much will depend on weather patterns, the jetstream and how many reactors meltdown, and now long they release radiation into the atmosphere. Alpha radiation is pretty bad, but as long as it is not inhaled or ingested, there is not a major health threat this far away from the disaster. But it remains to be seen how much of an effect this will have in the areas immediately surrounding these reactors. What does radiation sickness look like? Here is a decent article on it. Mike Ruppert has an interesting piece here on the disaster. He fully admits he was fooled by a hoax map and fesses up freely. It is sad that some really sick people would perpetrate a hoax like that at a time like this. Those of you wanting to see which way the wind blows (literally) can find a map here for themselves.

The central regions have suffered form eight consecutive seasons of below average seasonal performance and the capacity to withstand the current crisis during the harsh Jilaal dry season (January to March) is limited. Up to 70 per cent of the total populations in Hiiraan region are in crisis and in need of humanitarian assistance or livelihood support.

Now this is most interesting and troubling. This is no crackpot that discovered this. This new disease is thought to be the cause of sudden death syndrome in Soybeans and 'wilt' in corn. It also, according to the report, may be responsible for the infertility rates of Dairy Heifers and spontaneous abortions in Cows. "I have studied plant pathogens for more than 50 years. We are now seeing an unprecedented trend of increasing plant and animal diseases and disorders. This pathogen may be instrumental to understanding and solving this problem.
