Why is my name in that box?
Good question. The answer is.
You have your cookies enabled.
You have an Amazon.com cookie on your computer.
You have an Amazon.com account.
I (Watson's Web) cannot see who is coming to my site from this. Amazon.com can if they decided they wanted to know. Only you and Amazon can see this information. If you do not like your name showing up in the box then I suggest you do as I have been warning my readers over and over again. Take control over your privacy on the net.
If you use Firefox the best thing is to get rid of your cookies ASAP, hide your IP, change your browser useragent). Using Prefbar is a great help as you can customize it to easily clear cookies, disable Java (which can lead to information leaks) as well as some other privacy related tasks. Cookies tell others where you surf. While some PC magazines tell you they are harmless, they are like little RFID tags that follow you to every site you visit. While cookies are necessary to log into sites, a wise man will delete them as soon as he is finished with his purchase or using his web-based e-mail. You decide if your privacy is important to you. If you don't care, then do nothing. But if one day the world find out you have an STD, has a child who is hooked on drugs or that you have to check in with your probation officer twice a month or that you are in the Witness protection program, you and you alone will be to blame.
