Week IN Review for 15-22 October
Several GI's may face charges of mutiny when they refused to go on what they deemed to be a suicide mission. They claim that driving dilapidated, unprotected fuel trucks through territory known to be inhabited by the Iraqi rebels (freedom fighters or terrorists depending on which side of the conflict one is on) was unacceptable and they refused to carry out the orders. This is similar to many of the reports I have heard from other sources. The supply trucks being used by the army in Iraq are rejects from Germany and are in a sorry state of disrepair. Many overheat after just a few miles of driving and are just plain old mechanically unsound. Our troops are getting the shaft by Bush, Cheney and the American people who vote for these evil men. Some nine billion dollars are mission in Iraq and cannot be found because it has been stolen almost certainly by Bush cronies who have contracts in Iraq. Yet, we cannot provide the materials, equipment and arms to conduct this war in Iraq. Mutiny is a very serious charge and carries the death penalty with it though that will not be the case for these men and women. One cannot blame these troops. Now, I served in the military and understand the need for discipline. I also understand that you cannot keep screwing your troops year in and year out because these kinds of discipline problems will only get worse and worse. How can you expect your troops to deliver fuel with no protection, no arms and knowing that the fuel is contaminated and useless? It sounds to me (cynic that I am at times) that either we have some very incompetent officers or the officers were deliberately trying to kill certain members of the group (vendetta). If our troops are not given the proper support, look for incidents of fragging to occur (troops arranging fatal 'accidents' for their commanders) with regularity. These soldiers were ordered to go out in a hostile area in US uniforms without guns, without armour to deliver fuel that was useless! What kind of officer would give an order like that? An idiot or a traitor or both.
Ivan Fredrick got eight years for his role in the prison abuse scandal in Iraq. While the methods used in these prisons were personally approved by Rumsfeld and the DOD these men and women of the lower ranks are being sent to prison essentially for carrying out the orders of their superiors. The Officer in charge of the whole evil affair Sanchez, is now in line to get another star on his uniform and be promoted! These kinds of decisions will eventually lead to mutiny among our troops. Sadly if we remain in Iraq and Rumsfeld remains at the DOD we may see the first wide spread mutiny in the US military and it will probably begin in the Army. We are not there yet, but if we cannot supply our troops with the proper equipment, give them the proper intelligence support, and hold their leaders directly responsible for ill conceived and criminal acts, a mutiny may be the only recourse for out troops to express their extreme displeasure with its leadership. I know many readers think that the troops are gung-ho and love this war and the President. Well, that just isn't so...
Bank of America has lost a major lawsuit in the state of California. This is a rather rare occurrence that a major US corporation should so anger a Judge. The bank as usual is going to appeal the $284 million dollar fine. The bank was ordered to stop using social security deposits to pay for overdrafts. “Eighty-five percent of all the members of the banks had an average account balances of less than $1000”, said attorney James Sturdevant. What the bank did was clearly against the state law that prohibits such usage of Social Security deposits. Penalties could reach $1.5 billion dollars when all is said and done. Bank of America took ``bounced check fees from the most vulnerable customers the bank has,'' Sturdevant said in a telephone interview. ``All the customers who have these accounts are elderly or mentally disabled.'' It seems that no one is safe from America's corporate predators, not the old, not the infirm. My question is how come this has not been headline news?
The Episcopal Church is in a struggle about gay clergy. The American Church is trying to force its UK branches to accept an openly gay bishop. The US branch has threatened to withhold funds for missions and relief work if the sodomite is rejected. The Bishop, whose name is V. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, is causing a serious rift in the Episcopal Church. This is the next major test for Christianity in the world. It appears that the world is bent on changing the Church in its own image, rather than allowing the Church to transform itself into God's. The devil is very busy and has all but destroyed most of the organized Churches in the west. We are truly witnessing the great apostasy, or great falling away. The 'gay world' is trying to force itself into God's house and it seems that they have some willing accomplices in the congregations. Woe unto them! The Gay clergyman now claims that the 'Holy Spirit' let him into this abomination. Has he not read Luke 12:10, warning about one of only two UNFORGIVABLE sins? What kind of evil is at work here? Let it not be said that I hate gay people. I do not. Neither do I hate adulterers nor do I hate liars or thieves. I know that all men are bound in sin until they come to Christ and are washed in his blood and filled with his spirit. This is a different issue entirely than those who are identified by the idiotic catch phrase used by those in the so called gay community when they use the word 'homophobe' would have you believe. Most Christians are not afraid of gays, which is what a phobia is, a fear. God commands us to love our brothers so I do, gladly but I must warn every practicing homosexual, adulterer, murderer and thief that there is a horrible and unending punishment coming to the world for its sin and evil and upon those who practice these things. This controversy is a blatant attempt to undermine what little righteousness is left in the corporate Churches. These people, who are wittingly and unwittingly servants of satan, will not be satisfied until they have perverted the Churches, the schools or national institutions, marriages, families and finally those that are most dear to God, his saints and the children.
Also it appears that the The United Church of Christ's Connecticut Conference has backed marriage for same-sex couples. This is a growing trend in the apostate Church and it stands to reason that any real Christian should get out of a Church that has that kind of leadership.
If things weren't bad in a a world that our leaders say is over populated to the point that killing the unborn is considered a viable solution, we now have scientists trying to make a baby with three parents. Ostensibly the aim of these experiments is to keep mothers who posses genetic defects from passing the defective parts of their DNA on to their offspring.
'At the moment there is no cure for these children who are often very ill with a poor quality of life,' Said Professor Doug Turnbull a neurologist who received his permission to do this work from the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) in the UK.
Other Scientists see the ramifications of this work and state that this is the first most important step to engineering humans.
“By creating a child with three genetic parents, these scientists are taking the first step towards genetic engineering of human beings. That is not a direction in which we should be going,' said Dr David King, director of Human Genetics Alert.
This is the direction that science is likely to take with or without the permission of governments. There are enough rich people and corporations that will finance these endeavors seeing the potential for revenues in assisting the well-heeled yet genetically damaged. It stands to reason that this procedure will be rather expensive and reserved for only certain groups of genetically and financially 'important' individuals.
In a little noticed story the military government of Myanmar arrested the Prime Minister on charges of corruption. The Prime Minister who is also the top general in the country and the head of intelligence was placed under house arrest. Essentially this appears to be a group of competing corrupt factions in the government. Interestingly this General was interested in having talks with the main opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Mynamar is essentially a military junta style government that is the epitome of a National Security State. More information on Myanmar (Burma) can be found here. Also, several excellent reports on Myanmar can be found at the International Crisis Group.
It appears, according to the New York Times that private investors are reducing their investment's in the US.
“Private investment from abroad fell by nearly half - to $37.4 billion in August from $72.9 billion the month before. Investors appear to be concerned over cooling growth and a rising American trade deficit.” - NYT
Will this be the year that the debt pyramid comes crashing down? Possibly. It remains to be seen how we fund our gargantuan fiscal deficit for the year 2005. More likely we may see a period of economic disruptions that may show itself in high rates of inflation and perhaps rising interest rates coupled with more pension fund collapses and high unemployment and even higher underemployment.
On the lighter side
An Oregon man found a group of U.S. Air Force men at his door, warning him to keep his television turned off or face a $10,000 fine. It seems the man's Toshiba with the built-in DVD and VCR had been broadcasting on an international distress frequency, which was picked up by a satellite and noticed by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center in Virginia. Toshiba claims to have never heard of the problem before. - Source: Gizmodo
An Internet search set a kidnapped journalist free. John Martinkus, a veteran freelancer who has covered conflicts from East Timor to Iraq, was released Tuesday, a day after he was taken hostage by Sunni militants and ex-Iraqi army officers. They googled him up and found out that he was no threat and released him. - Source: The Age
